Jim O'Sullivan describes joining the Criminal Investigation Branch in 1965 and being transferred to Innisfail about 1976, where he combated illegal activities, such as SP Bookmaking thought to involve senior police officers. He goes on to comment that his actions were unpopular with some in the Queensland Police Service.
